Jamiu Akolade is the founder and a trustee of the Employment and Labour Lawyers Association of Nigeria (ELLAN)
Jamiu founded ELLAN in 2015 with colleagues while he was an associate in a leading commercial law firm in Lagos Nigeria. He is a law graduate of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, where he obtained his first degree in 2007 and subsequently obtained an LLM from the University of Lagos.
Jamiu is currently a Legal Counsel within the Global Litigation team of the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC). Before joining SPDC, he was a dispute resolution Counsel in Adepetun Caxton-Martins Agbor & Segun, now Dentons ACAS-LAW where he was part of the employment litigation team advising and representing clients on employee wrongful termination claims, redundancies, executive compensation and compensation for workplace injuries.
Jamiu has written on various areas of employment law and his book, The Employment Law Handbook, remains one of the leading resources for lawyers and human resource professionals on contemporary employment law issues.
Apart from ELLAN, Jamiu sits on the Management Committee of the African Labour Law Society as the Nigerian representative and is also an ex officio executive member of the NBA Employment and Industrial Relations Sub-committee.
In 2022, Jamiu was recognised as one of the 40 under 40 lawyers changing the face of the legal profession in Nigeria and was also featured by The International Employment Lawyer (IEL) for his work with ELLAN.
Jamiu gives back to society as a member of Rotary International.
